Best Practices for School District Cybersecurity: A Practical Guide for K–12 IT Teams
Learn K–12 cybersecurity best practices and how districts and education vendors can build stronger, more resilient defenses.
Every day I am reminded that education isn’t just a series of schools, or a system—it’s a heartbeat. Behind every data point, job posting, or staffing chart, students are waiting for someone to notice them, to teach them, to believe in them. And in 2025, that heartbeat feels both familiar and fragile.
Across the country, schools are still navigating teacher shortages. Yes, some numbers are improving—but special education, STEM, and bilingual classrooms are still waiting for helping hands. Substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff remain in high demand. As educators, we see the strain daily. When one teacher leaves, the ripples touch everyone—from students to parents to colleagues who try to fill the gaps.
But amid the challenges, something hopeful is happening. Schools are getting creative. Flexible staffing models, part-time and remote roles, and job-sharing opportunities are reshaping what it means to “staff a school.” These innovations are helping us keep the focus where it belongs: on the students.
Retention, however, remains the soul of the conversation. Teachers don’t stay because of test scores or policies—they stay because they feel seen, supported, and valued. I’ve watched how mentorship, wellness programs, and meaningful professional growth can make the difference between burnout and breakthrough. When educators are given room to grow, everyone benefits—especially our kids.
We’re also seeing schools lean into student support services in powerful ways. Addressing chronic absenteeism, mental health, and behavioral needs isn’t just an add-on; it’s foundational. When students feel safe and cared for, learning follows, providing a solid foundation for their academic journey and instilling confidence in educators and stakeholders.
For companies that serve schools, this is where the partnership matters most. We don’t need more quick fixes—we need partners who understand the pulse of the classroom. Technology that streamlines hiring is helpful, but technology that fosters human connection is transformational, making educators and stakeholders feel valued and integral to the process.
Education has always been about people. From teachers who do a million unseen things to help their students, to parents who volunteer, and of course, students who are trying their best. The future of staffing isn’t just about filling roles—it’s about filling hearts. And in 2025, that’s what will keep our classrooms and our communities thriving.

As both an educator and a parent, I have watched the conversation surrounding cell phones in schools change dramatically over the years.
I remember when the biggest concern was whether students were texting under their desks or sneaking a quick glance at social media during class. While those concerns certainly still exist, the conversation has grown into something much larger.
