Key Findings From the 2023 Agile Education Marketing Survey
Agile’s survey provides an overview of data that reveals educational professionals—in both public and private schools and across grade levels—unique sentiments on core concerns and challenges in K-12 education today. These discoveries reveal insights into the following categories:
Mental Health and Preparedness
The survey determined that teachers and administrators are emphasizing the importance of mental and emotional support as it gains recognition in virtually every industry. A noteworthy 92.3% of administrators feel a responsibility for fostering instructor wellness to varying degrees. And, while 65% of educators acknowledged their school administrations’ efforts in supporting their well-being, 17% felt the initiatives were insufficient.
With high school teachers reporting the highest levels of stress among all grade groups, it may come as a surprise that a staggering 84.6% of educators felt prepared to teach regardless. There’s also a significant distinction to note between private and public school teachers: Private school educators demonstrated a 12.5% higher efficacy in delivering grade-level instruction.
Cyberbullying and Cybersecurity
In an increasingly digital world, it’s no shock that cyberbullying and cybersecurity are critical topics of conversation in the K-12 education landscape. However, an interesting and stark contrast emerged in the perceptions of teachers and administrators regarding these focus areas.
While 67.4% of administrators expect cyberbullying to impact individuals at their school, teachers did not share the same concern. What’s more, 56.6% of the same cohort anticipate the possibility of a cyberattack on their institution.
Health and Safety
Health and safety are at the forefront of institutional leaders’ minds in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Agile Education’s survey indicates that administrators, particularly from private schools, now believe in the likelihood of experiencing new infectious diseases.
On the other hand, instructors and administrators found themselves in agreement, echoing concerns about school violence. As much as 60% of administrators foresee the possibility of physical violence affecting their schools. Moreover, a significant percentage of respondents believed violence could quickly escalate, manifesting as a school shooting or bomb threat.
Student Behavior and Performance
Administrators and educators also found common ground concerning prevalent student challenges. Both groups expressed worries about students’ ability to concentrate while using digital devices. Instructors specifically cited concerns over inadequate math skills and learning gaps resulting from the pandemic.
Funding and Budgets
Teachers and administrators alike reported similar viewpoints regarding school resources and expenditures. This includes recognizing general school supplies as the most underfunded resource, followed by computers and electronic devices.
Up to 92% of teachers indicated spending between $400 and $500 of their own money on school supplies annually. And public school teachers, especially those in grades five through eight, tend to encounter this challenge more regularly than their private school counterparts.
The Value of Taking a Data-Driven Approach
The findings ultimately underscore the greater need for psychological support for teachers and increased investment in safety and security measures—not to mention re-evaluating budget and resource allocation to prioritize underfunded areas. The nuanced perspectives between private and public schools and the full range of K-12 grade levels highlight areas for targeted intervention.
