Let’s Get Digital! Why Micro-learning Works. Let’s Get Digital!
By now, most of us are familiar with Micro-learning. Micro-learning is an educational strategy that refines complex concepts into compact, digestible knowledge. As the term suggests, it presents information in concise, short bursts, each focusing on a specific learning objective.
Micro-learning is done in business training in professional spaces, as well as in higher education and K-12 education. Studies show that Micro-learning is effective for a wide variety of learners as it delivers education in small, bite-sized learning units, typically allowing students to control their learning at their own pace.
Why does Mico-learning work?
Micro-learning is:
Short : It lasts 5-15 minutes (or less).
Focused : It has a specific focus on one single topic.
Interactive : It is combined with activities to promote active learning.
Flexible : It is available alone or with other micro-learning, teaching, or classroom activities, and it should be used daily or several times a week.
Classroom Connection
With pre-integrated educational tools, student information systems, and education platforms, digital platforms have every tool the classroom needs to succeed.
Several platforms give teachers, students, and parents a place to communicate and collaborate outside of courses–such as sports teams, clubs, PLCs, parent-teacher organizations, and more. This creates a collaborative community that also builds relationships while learning.
Keeps Learning in Motion
With built-in video communication tools and the ability to allow for student pacing, small groups, and individualized interventions, teachers can keep the learning going from the classroom to the living room. Personalized learning is offered by providing a selection of micro-learning topics and giving students some choices. The most profound learning happens when we explore! Learning can occur anywhere through digital platforms, which has become increasingly important in a post-pandemic world.
Lighten Teacher Workloads
Teachers wear many hats. Digital platforms save teachers time with pre-built resources. These pre-built resources allow educators to build and share district-approved lesson plans and other classroom resources. With a single click, and pull them into courses with a single click. Micro-learning done through a digital platform can also save time on grading. Creating several lessons instead of just having one long assignment gives students more opportunities to master the class. Best of all, many of them can connect with Google Classroom content, making it easier to adopt for teachers who already work within Google Classroom.
Parent Involvement
Never before has it been easier for parents to be involved in their child’s instruction. Parents can connect to their child’s classroom, teachers, and assignments with a few clicks. Parents can assist their students anytime with video tutorials and other content available, plus the ability to communicate and collaborate.
Success
Micro-learning through digital platforms provides multiple opportunities for all parties involved. With the ability to learn confidently with the appropriate amount of information and instruction, students of all ages are likelier to retain and apply what they’ve learned. This is a win-win for everyone!
