When analyzing the current year’s school leadership movement across 90,000+ United States public schools, Agile has applied over 50,000 new roles in core leadership, focusing on positions such as Principals, Assistant and Vice Principals, Heads of School, Athletic Directors, Instructional Coordinators and Facilitators, and Directors of Career and Vocational Education.
Texas has shown the highest volume of leadership transitions, with 9,167 new administrative changes among more than 26,000 active roles. States like Virginia, Alabama, and Mississippi also demonstrate high turnover rates, typically with 26–33% of their school leadership roles occupied by newly appointed administrators. Even smaller states, including Vermont, exhibit meaningful levels of change, indicating that leadership turnover is widespread across states of all sizes.
Overall, the findings reveal a highly active leadership landscape, with new leadership in 23% of the roles nationwide. Regular public schools are experiencing significant transitions that impact school priorities and continuity this school year.
