New survey by Agile Education Marketing and SheerID reveals teacher shopping trends
Denver, CO – July 30, 2014 – According to a recent survey on teachers' spending behavior by Agile Education Marketing and SheerID, the leading teacher verification provider, teacher spending is up year-over-year going into 2014 back-to-school season.
In previous years, organizations like the NSSEA have reported that teachers spend over $400 of their own money on supplies for their classrooms. Agile Education Marketing and SheerID determined that in the 2013-2014 school year, teachers in the United States have spent an average of $513 out-of-pocket on classroom supplies, instructional materials, books for their classrooms, and professional development. This is a six percent increase over what teachers spent last year. “When we got the results back, we were surprised to see that even though the economy is slowly improving, teachers are spending even more of their own hard-earned money to foster children’s educational development,” shares Robert O'Dell, Managing Partner of Agile Education Marketing.
The survey also polled teachers on their attitudes and loyalty towards companies that offer teacher discounts or teacher appreciation programs. Agile Education Marketing and SheerID found that 80% of teachers are more loyal to brands that offer teacher discounts, and 81% will seek out companies that offer teacher discounts. “Extending exclusive discounts or other offers to teachers is something every company should consider,” states Jake Weatherly, CEO of SheerID. “Teachers not only undoubtedly deserve acknowledgment for their dedication; they are also extremely loyal to brands that demonstrate that they value education.”
As one teacher who filled out the survey explained, “Companies that offer teacher discounts believe in teachers and are in the fight with us to help educate our children. We love them.”
